While attending Wayne State College, one of the first things I did was join the ACM club, which is WSC’s official computer science club. After joining the club, I started getting involved by helping with a variety of different projects and groups. One of the groups I joined was their website committee, which I ended up leading my senior year in college. During that year, we decided to redesign the website and create one from scratch.
While I fully admit this website is not the prettiest or my best work overall, I’m still proud of what we were able to accomplish while I was a part of ACM and think this project does a good job of demonstrating my ability to work on a team on larger projects.
Looking back at this project and reflecting now, there are quite a few things I would have done differently. The first and most major change would have been going with a simpler solution like creating a custom WordPress theme to help manage content and the website layout in general. As it currently stands, this was still a ‘learning project’ at heart, and like most engineers, I look back at my previous projects and question what I was thinking at the time. But at the same time, I still feel pride in what I accomplished creating my first official website.
